In the research topic "Smart Metering and Grid Control”, our research activities focus on the digitalization of the electricity grid and the grid integration of decentralized energy systems using the smart metering system. We offer a wide range of R&D services for the market and grid-oriented control of energy systems in accordance with Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG).
We develop algorithms and forecasting models for the optimal and predictive operation of systems, tailored to the needs of our customers. These can be used on plant controllers or energy management systems. This not only benefits system operators through economical operation, but also the electricity grid through the optimal use of resources.
Interoperable communication across all stakeholders is essential for system operation, control and measurement data acquisition. To this end, we develop our own communication solutions for EEBus (VDE-AR-E-2829-6-x) and IEC 61850, which we offer to our customers for communication and conformity tests. We also use our expertise to develop test procedures, for example for the digital interface of the FNN control box.
With the Digital Grid Lab , we have a state-of-the-art laboratory for testing system operation management and the entire communication chain from the control room to the customer system. The hardware-in-the-loop grid simulator enables digital twins of the electricity grid and energy technology systems to be modelled. Complex grid sections and operating situations can be flexibly simulated in a controlled laboratory environment, and the interaction of systems in the grid, such as the charging infrastructure, can be tested.
