Battery Materials and Cells

In the research topic " Battery Materials and Cells", we focus on innovative and sustainable materials and technologies for energy storage. With a laboratory space of approximately 1,140 m², interdisciplinary teams dedicate themselves to the development, refinement, and innovative manufacturing processes of new materials. Our focus ranges from various cell architectures to prototype development. We investigate different cell chemistries with monovalent (including lithium and sodium ion technology) and multivalent charge carriers (including zinc and aluminum ion technology), as well as battery technologies with liquid electrolytes and solid-state electrolytes to address the diverse applications of batteries in a tailored manner.

We are passionately committed to sustainability and work intensively to develop energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions. These efforts are embedded in all our research activities and contribute to reducing the ecological footprint of batteries. Through close collaboration with the fields of production technology and technology assessment for batteries, our work is supported by process engineering and techno-economic considerations, as well as AI-based cell simulations. This enables us to translate our research results into practice and actively shape the future of energy storage.
