Power Electronics Components and Systems

The growing demand for sustainable, efficient, and zero-emission mobility requires a wide range of power electronic components and systems. In both mobile and stationary applications, high-performance and energy-efficient power converters are essential for increasing range and reducing charging times. With our extensive expertise and state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, we develop high-performance and compact power electronic systems through to pre-series production. In close collaboration with OEMs, suppliers, and charging infrastructure manufacturers, we work to implement innovative and customized solutions for power electronic systems.

Studies, Simulations, and Analyses

Every project begins with an innovative idea and the subsequent detailed development of a concept or feasibility study. During this process, our experts work with us to identify the circuit topologies suitable for the application, size the corresponding key components, and perform a simulation-based evaluation of the system.

In addition, our scope of work includes thoroughly analyzing existing power electronic converters and systems, characterizing them, and adapting them as needed. In particular, our unique laboratory infrastructure allows us to perform electrical and thermal characterization of charging infrastructure, drive inverters, and on-board converters up to the megawatt range.

To share our valuable expertise in the field of electromobility and related power electronics, we offer not only training courses and seminars but also presentations tailored specifically to the needs of interested professionals. We are happy to share our knowledge to help you implement innovative solutions to your challenges.

The versatility and flexibility of power electronics make it possible to use electrical energy efficiently in vehicles and to optimize the performance and range of electric vehicles. This requires a wide variety of different types of power converters. In developing these power electronic components and systems, we focus primarily on power density, power volume, and cost-effectiveness.

In addition to using fast-switching semiconductors to reduce the volume of passive components, we identify optimal circuit topologies for each application, complete with the appropriate safety concepts. We pay particular attention to the necessary galvanic isolation, which we can implement with maximum efficiency. We are also well-versed in the use of fluid cooling systems.

High-Power Inductive and Conductive Charging Infrastructure

The development and sizing of inductive charging systems require a wide range of expertise. From the design of inductive transducers, through electromagnetic analysis, to the design and simulation of electrical resonant circuits and circuit topologies—we master the entire spectrum. With our expertise, we can design inductive power transfer systems, commission them, and comprehensively measure their performance in laboratory and field tests.

In addition, we develop compact and highly efficient conductive charging infrastructure for stationary applications. Our innovative solutions enable the development of wired DC systems for current charging standards such as CCS (Combined Charging System) and, in the future, MCS (Megawatt Charging System). In doing so, we take all device-specific standards into account and rely on innovative power electronics designs that can be implemented all the way through to pilot production.
