Electric Mobility

To achieve a sustainable mobility system various measures to reduce CO₂ emissions - such as the principle of short distances, car sharing, the expansion of local public transport and the digital automation and networking of vehicles - are necessary. The further development of sustainable drive types, eFuels and electricity-based drive types with battery and fuel cells - electric vehicles - is of great importance. The impact on the climate is directly linked to the proportion of renewable electricity in the energy system. The electricity demand for mobility is significant - electricity generation, electricity grids and, depending on the technology, electrolysers and charging infrastructure must be expanded. With new approaches and research, the mobility infrastructure will not be a burden, but an important pillar of the energy transition, offering efficiency, flexibility and stability in the energy system. At Fraunhofer ISE, we are conducting transdisciplinary research into new technologies for the sustainable mobility of tomorrow.
