Annual Report 2022/23
Dear Reader,
In 2022 hardly any other topic has occupied people’s minds more than the ongoing war in the Ukraine. With the accompanying uncertainty with regard to energy supply, Fraunhofer ISE's main research areas - energy provision, energy distribution, energy storage and energy utilization – have increasingly taken a central place in media, public and social discourse. This was not only demonstrated by the enormous increase in the number of press inquiries, but also by the growing demand for cooperation from politics, business and industry.
One of our important strategic research areas is stationary energy storage, which we specifically address in our new key topic called "Stationary Battery Storage - Stability and Flexibility in the Energy System." We are particularly pleased to announce the commissioning of the first laboratories in our new Center for Electrical Energy Storage in Freiburg, after having successfully completed the planning and construction phases which lasted several years.
You will find information on this and many other research topics in our Annual Report 2022/23, which includes the latest scientific findings from our six business areas: Photovoltaics, Energy-Efficient Buildings, Solar Thermal Power Plants and Industrial Processes, Hydrogen Technologies, Electrical Energy Storage, and Power Electronics, Grids and Smart Systems.
We wish you a stimulating read and welcome your feedback.
Kind regards,
Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Henning | Prof. Dr. Andreas Bett
