Electrical and Thermal Characterization

In the field of electrical and thermal characterization, we investigate battery cells and systems with regard to their electrical and thermal properties.

Electrical Characterization

To understand the electrical behavior of batteries, the investigation and modeling of battery cells is important. With the help of our methods, it is possible to evaluate the quality fluctuation of battery cells, to characterize the aging process and to predict the electrical behavior under load. These aspects are necessary, among other things, for determining the state or thermal design of battery systems.

Thermal Characterization

To better understand the batteries’ thermal behavior , we offer thermal characterization of batteries and battery cells. In this process, waste heat of battery cells is measured in different operating states and ambient temperatures. In addition, the generated heat is separated into resistive and entropic heat. With this measurement data and the subsequent modeling, it is possible to predict the waste heat of battery systems and battery modules. For these measurements, we hold a high level of technical expertise and an extensive infrastructure, including numerous research devices such as an isothermal calorimeter.
