In AgriChance, the opportunities and risks of Agri-PV for agriculture and energy transitions in Hamburg are being examined. The results serve as a decision-making aid to outline the potential, economic considerations, and energy integration.
The aim of the project is to capture and evaluate the specific potentials for Agri-PV systems in the rural areas of the city-state of Hamburg. Through a GIS-based analysis, it will be assessed which areas are potentially suitable for the establishment of Agri-PV systems. In addition to considering the sectors of horticulture and agriculture with their open-field areas, the potentials of under-glass horticulture areas will also be specifically considered. Here, numerous synergy effects could exist due to already established structures. The findings from the research project are intended to serve as a decision-making basis for politics, administration, and practice, as well as to provide political recommendations for action.
Furthermore, recommendations for opportunities for in-depth examination and the investigation of possible pilot plants in Hamburg—especially in traditional cultural landscapes such as the Vier- and Marschlanden, the Elbe islands Wilhelmsburg and Finkenwerder, as well as the Hamburg part of the Alte Land—are to be derived.
The research project aims to contribute to the sustainable strengthening and future security of the agricultural location of Hamburg with its traditional cultural landscapes. Young entrepreneurs in agricultural and horticultural businesses are particularly at the forefront. Despite the complex conditions in the urban space of the metropolis of Hamburg, concrete future perspectives for the areas of "innovative energy concepts, income diversification, and new business models" are to be identified.
The main area of investigation is the location of Hamburg, but comparable situations can also be found in adjacent areas, in the metropolitan region of Hamburg, and in other metropolitan regions in the federal territory. The results and recommendations will be prepared in such a way that they can also be transferred to the metropolitan region of Hamburg and other metropolitan regions or cultural landscapes in urban areas.
