Within the project "TOPAs", the Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems develops an open, cloud-based platform with analysis tools for buildings together with an international Consortium composed of nine partners including IBM and Motorola. The platform enables to quantify the performance gap between the actual energy and the predicted energy consumption and to make recommendation to minimize this gap. The TOPAs solution aims to reduce the performance gap to a maximum of 10% while saving up to 20% of energy through the use of innovative management strategies. The project focuses on the occupancy phase of buildings and analyses and optimizes their operation. In addition to reducing energy consumption, TOPAs also provides an expanded understanding of on the building operation and on indoor comfort.
