Short biography
Arne Surmann finished his master’s degree in Renewable Energies at the University of Applied Science Cologne in 2018 after completing his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Mannheim in 2014. During his bachelor period (2011-2014) he worked for Siemens with a major focus on HVDC converter platforms connecting offshore wind parks. Since 2017 Arne works at Fraunhofer ISE, starting as a master student quantifying the flexibility demand of residential districts. Today Arne works in the department of Smart Grids. He develops decentralized agent-based energy management systems for renewable energy communities. In addition, he is the leading developer of the synPRO toolfor the generation of load-and production profiles for residential and commercial buildings including control schemes for various flexibility resources such as heat pumps, battery storage and electric vehicles.
