The "MiMoRisk" project aims to reduce module-related yield risks for future PV power plants. To this end, measurement uncertainties in module characterization are reduced and module technology, material and design-specific degradation risks are identified at an early stage.
As part of the expansion of renewable energies, we expect a significant increase in PV installations in Germany to more than 20 GW/year in the coming years. Due to this dimension, it is very important to minimize the investment, operational and financing costs of PV power plants, to reduce uncertainties and risks and to increase the service life.
At the same time, the cost reduction on the module side promotes the further development of PV modules in ever shorter development cycles towards new cell concepts and new materials, larger module dimensions and half-cell or shingle modules. This has an impact on module characterization and long-term stability. Cost minimization on the system side leads to new system requirements (e.g. 1500 V and more) and/or new operating conditions (e.g. for Agri-PV or building-integrated PV), also with possible effects on long-term stability.
Undetected or unexpected degradation can lead to significant losses in PV power generation, and incorrect characterization of new types of PV modules can lead to considerable economic damage. In order to reduce the risk for the German PV industry, from module manufacturers to PV system developers and financing, the MiMoRisk project envisages the following steps:
