Solar Summit Freiburg 2013: At the 6th international Solar Summit Conference, experts from research and industry present the highlights and trends in the area of solar energy conversion – grid integration and grid stability, storage solutions and energy management.

The transformation of our energy system is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Cities and communities play a central role in the development and implementation of practical solutions. A main question in point is how institutes and organizations can assist in making this transformation possible. This will be a central theme at this year’s Solar Summit Freiburg. Talks will cover grid integration and grid stability as well as storage solutions and energy management.

To begin the conference, Prof. Eicke R. Weber will present a talk on a “Multi-Gigawatt Factory” project. This project aims to secure the future of the European PV industry by putting the German and European PV production industry in a position to construct large-scale PV factories with annual production capacities from one to five gigawatts, and thus being internationally competitive. Following Weber, talks will be presented by Fraunhofer ISE researchers and other external speakers on the topics of storage and batteries, grid integration and grid stability. “This year’s Solar Summit addresses the most important aspects of the energy turnaround, concentrating specifically on grid integration,” says Prof. Eicke R. Weber, Director of Fraunhofer ISE. “I am pleased to continue our international conference series by presenting such interesting talks from research and industry.” The “Freiburger Solarnacht,” an evening event for participants of both the Solar Summit Freiburg and the Annual Meeting of the FVEE, will be held on October 23. This event offers an ideal platform for conversation and meetings among colleagues in the solar sector. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants are given the opportunity to continue their discussions from the conference.

The Solar Summit Freiburg is hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and supported by the Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe FWTM. The conference organization is carried out by PSE AG in Freiburg. “In the branch, the Solar Summit has become a fixed date in the annual event calendar, thus emphasizing the relevance of the Green City Freiburg as a location for solar – even during the difficult situation currently existing on the European solar market,” says Bernd Dallmann, Managing Director FWTM.

The conference language is English.
