Duration: July 2011 - December 2012
Contracting Authority/ Sponsors: KfW, New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA)
Project Partners: Fraunhofer ISI, Lahmeyer International

Energy consumption in Egypt has been steadily increasing over the last years. Primary energy consumption has been growing annually at 6% on average and the growth in demand for electricity reached levels of 7-8%.

In order to enable a coordinated and targeted evolution of wind and solar energies in Egypt a Combined Renewable Energy Master Plan (CREMP) is developed.  This Master Plan has the following main objectives:

  • A Renewable energy framework for wind and solar energies is developed. The REF supports the economic and social development of Egypt based on an intensified market penetration of wind and solar energies.
  • A feasibility study for a large-scale CSP project in Kom Ombo is conducted.
  • Egypt‘s capacities for manufacturing and servicing of wind and solar power plant equipment is be assessed.
