Decarbonization Strategies, Transformation and Sector Analyses

Achieving climate neutrality is gaining importance for companies and organizations. To implement climate strategies, it is first necessary to clearly define the goal: Should climate neutrality, i.e., a state in which there is no impact on the climate, or net-zero, i.e., a zero balance sheet total of CO2 emissions, be achieved? Or any of the possible targets in between? And for which areas or scopes does this target apply?

In the research topic "Energy System Analysis", we develop decarbonization and transformation paths, taking into account the changed technical, regulatory and economic framework conditions as well as individual climate targets. This includes case-specific strategy development as well as the selection of suitable instruments for implementation. These include, for example, the role of pricing CO2 emissions, which is directly reflected in techno-economic analyses of energy supply, as well as necessary awareness-raising and information measures to accompany successful implementation.

For the transformation of the local energy supply and the related analysis of different investment options, we offer detailed investigations with the energy system model DISTRICT. This involves an individual analysis of energy consumption, assessing the potential for local energy generation including possible use of waste heat. Based on this, several transformation paths are developed and subjected to a risk analysis.

R&D Services

In the topic of "Decarbonization Strategies, Transformation and Sector Analyses", we offer the following research and development services, for example:

  • Technology analyses for investment decisions (portfolio analyses)
  • Investment assessment and analysis of barriers
  • CO2 abatement strategies and pricing
  • Instruments for achieving decarbonization goals in companies
