Battery Integration and Operational Management

In the topic "Battery Integration and Operational Management", we focus on the economically and ecologically optimized planning and implementation of storage-based energy systems, i.e. the integration of one or more battery energy storage systems into an electrical supply infrastructure.  

The storage systems can be installed locally or distributed across several locations. In the field of stationary storage systems, our work covers both on- and off-grid applications, with a focus on the integration of large-scale storage systems as well as medium-sized commercial, industrial and district storage systems. With regard to mobile applications, our activities also concentrate on land-based use and, in particular, on the use of storage in the context of private and commercial vehicles. 

Our expertise covers the entire value chain, from the design and simulation-based optimization and characterization of storage-based energy systems to their demonstration and testing in the laboratory to the implementation in the field. We offer our expertise both in the context of research projects and individual R&D services. In this way, we support battery system manufacturers, system integrators, project developers, energy supply companies and industrial users in the successful implementation of their storage projects.

  • Testing and characterization
    We test batteries and systems based on e.g. lead, NiMH, Li-ion cells as well as high-temperature batteries and double-layer capacitors on an area of 400 m². The laboratory equipment includes battery test systems and impedance spectrometers, which are used for testing in the climate chamber or in a water bath in accordance with standards or customer requirements..
  • Ageing tests
    For ageing tests and service life analyses of batteries and battery systems, we offer long-term tests lasting several months. This includes both the investigation of cycle life and the analysis of calendar ageing. Approximately 180 test circuits in various performance classes from button cells to large storage batteries are available for this purpose.
