more infoCost optimal and nearly zero energy performance levels are principles initiated by the European Union’s (EU) Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which was recast in 2010. These will be major drivers in the construction sector in the next few years, because all new buildings in the EU from 2021 onwards are expected to be nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs). | Duration: 09/2017 - 08/2020
more infoInitial investigations of heat exchangers which use woven or knitted meshes of metal wire as the heat transfer structure have demonstrated a large potential for mass reduction and energy saving. In the ”EffiMet” joint project, which is supported within the ”KMUInnovativ Programme” of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Fraunhofer ISE is cooperating with Visiotex GmbH, Hattler & Sohn GmbH and Fraunhofer IFAM in Dresden to investigate the theoretical background, identify technical implementation routes and implement the results with selected typical components. The results from one of the constructed components show that about 50 % of the material needed to increase the surface area can be saved for the same energy efficiency values. Correspondingly, the energy efficiency can be raised while keeping the amount of material used constant. | Duration: 09/2011 - 08/2014
more infoThe Federal Government's Energy Efficiency Strategy for Buildings (Energieeffizienzstrategie Gebäude, ESG) is based on the goal of making the building stock virtually climate-neutral by 2050. To this end, the non-renewable primary energy demand is to be reduced by a combination of energy saving and the use of renewable energies by the year 2050 in the order of 80% compared to the year 2008. This ambitious task can be accomplished by accelerating the implementation of innovations, new technologies and concepts, and the transfer of findings from many years of research. With the funding initiative "EnEff.Gebäude.2050" within the framework of the ESG, the transfer of research results to a broad impact is to be initiated and accelerated in a targeted manner. The project accompanies this transfer from research to the broad field. | Duration: 07/2017 - 12/2019

During this project, the decentralized integration of solar thermal energy plants into a heat supply concept based on a cogeneration unit is examined. The operation of the cogeneration unit is optimized for the best possible interaction with the power grid and the local heating network for a minimization of distribution loss. The central objective of the project is to implement and review the concept and operations management in the demonstration project Freiburg-Gutleutmatten and subsequently derive generally applicable regulations for the long-term utilization of solar thermal energy in comparable residential areas, especially in light of massively changing energy supply structures. | Duration: 06/2013 - 04/2018
