    In this year’s business plan competition “CyberOne Hightech Award Baden-Wuerttemberg 2017,” the Freiburg start-up Blue Inductive was awarded first prize in the area of industrial technology. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros. Founded in 2016 as a spin-off company of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, the start-up develops wireless charging systems for batteries in mobile transport systems.

  • Kumar Abhishek

    Since the beginning of November, Kumar Abhishek is working as a guest scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE as a German Chancellor Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung. Gerhard Stryi-Hipp, the mentor of the young energy process engineer from India, met Kumar several years ago during a research project in India. “Kumar Abhishek worked both in an Indian company that cooperates with Fraunhofer as well as in the Indian Ministry for Renewable Energy. His fellowship is not only a chance for him personally but also for Fraunhofer ISE. He is a perfect candidate for strengthening the existing contacts and working relationships of the Institute with Indian partners,” explains Gerhard Stryi-Hipp, Group Leader of Group Leader of Smart Energy Cities, Quarter Concepts and Heat Grids at Fraunhofer ISE.

    Leading young scientists from 21 countries visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg on October 17. The 25 winners of the "Green Talents Award" were informed about the research interests of Fraunhofer ISE and the Institute for Sustainable Technical Systems at the University of Freiburg. The group visited laboratories and the university campus, and met with Fraunhofer ISE scientists.

    In June 2017 a kick-off event was held at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems to establish a network of countries bordering the Danube. The initiated project, called “DanubeHEAT” and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), aims to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency in the heat sector in the Danube region. The project themes will be promoted with the support of small and medium companies (SMEs), universities, schools, research institutes and city administrations from the partner countries. In November 2017, all partners will be meeting at workshops held in Croatia and Romania. To complete the network, Fraunhofer ISE is searching for a German industry partner.

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE is collaborating with the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) to organize the 8th Back Contact Workshop, which will be held in Freiburg from November 21–22, 2017. The workshop focuses on back contact technology for solar cells and modules. This technology involves fitting the contacts entirely on the rear side of the solar cells in order to improve sunlight absorption on the front side.
