In the course of the energy revolution and the associated sector coupling, the transport sector plays a crucial role in achieving the target of 100% renewable energy. In coming years, the decarbonization of the transport sector will increasingly be realized through the electrification of the powertrain. In order to make the electrical energy available to the electric drive in an application-specific and correct form, a large number of power electronic converters are required.
For this purpose we develop application-specific solutions such as highly efficient bidirectional charging systems. These not only enable efficient charging of vehicles, but also the recovery of stored energy from the associated storage medium if it is needed in the power grid. The integration of grid-supporting and grid-building functions, e.g. the provision of system services, is also part of our research focus. In addition, we develop highly compact on-board converters that couple the traction battery with the actuators or a range extender as efficiently and intelligently as possible.
