Based on the results of ISE studies, aqua-PV is expected to nearly double the rate of land use compared to a conventional ground-mounted photovoltaic system. Currently, two research facilities are planned in Vietnam.

One of the planned systems with a capacity of 1 MW will be equipped with integrated solar modules in a glass tunnel. The PV glass tunnel improves working conditions by shading, provides protection against predation and ensures a stable and lower water temperature promoting shrimp growth. According to initial analyses, the pilot plant is expected to save around 15,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and to reduce water use by 75% compared to a conventional shrimp farm.

Another 400 kW plant will be installed above a freshwater pool where pangasius fish are bred. For this purpose, the solar modules are raised above the surface of the water and thus reduce water loss by evaporation, but also predation by birds.
