In Germany, around 50 % of the final energy is due to heating and cooling, of which a large fraction is used for buildings.

The efficient production of heating and cooling power is key  to the success of climate protection and energy efficiency. In particular, heat transformation technologies, including heat pumps and chillers, are going to play an increasingly important part in the building energy supply.

In the energy supply, the total conversion chain must be considered: from the primary energy carriers to the final energy consumer. The goal is to provide the necessary final energy using the production chain with the least CO2 emissions.

Fraunhofer ISE is working on optimizing the heating and cooling supply of buildings and industry processes. Our field of research services starts from the concept development, continues through the system optimization and development up to the final improvements in aggregates and components.

Of late, we are putting more emphasis on the measurement, evaluation and further development of heat pumps and chillers, offering an increasingly wider range of services in this area.
