Fraunhofer ISE and Adeco, a Saudi company which specialises in environmental technology and renewable energy, have forged a new partnership in order to cooperate in the field of hydrogen technology and the use of CO2 for the synthesis of energy carriers and fuels.

PV plants produced 19.5 TWh electricity in 2011. This is an increase of 65% compared to 2010. The share of solar energy of the gross power generation was 3.2%. In 2011 PV produced more energy than hydro power for the first time. Wind turbines produced 46.5 TWh in 2011 and increased their production by 23% compared to 2010. The share of wind energy of the gross power generation was 7.6%. Wind energy is the strongest renewable energy source in Germany.

The comfortable weather of the past weeks lured many outside. However, not only those looking for sun benefited from the beautiful weather, also solar power plants operated particularly well and delivered an important contribution to the power supply. Graphs based on data from the European Electricity Exchange (EEX) show that, depending on the weather, over midday up to 13.2 Gigawatts (GW) of solar power was delivered to the public grid. That corresponds to the net output power of up to ten nuclear power plants.
