The institute's technological work is accompanied by characterization of silicon material, cells and modules. Fraunhofer ISE can call on many years of experience in metrology development, simulation and accurate measurement methods.

CalLab PV Cells at Fraunhofer ISE can offer measurement and calibration services for solar cells using many different PV technologies. It is the benchmark for research and industry and is an accredited ISO/IEC 17025 calibration laboratory recognized by Deutscher Kalibrierdienst - DKD.
We develop modern methods for inline metrology and quality assurance for analyzing silicon wafers, solar cell precursors and solar cells. One major focal point lies in silicon materials analysis and qualification , in which efficiency-limiting characteristics of crystalline silicon wafers (e.g. monocrystalline, multicrystalline, ribbon-drawn materials) made from various feedstock materials are determined and analyzed.
We have wide-ranging experience in solar cell analysis and qualification. This includes the measurement of relevant solar cell parameters, the development of new analytical methods with elevated spatial resolution and the simulation of solar cell processes and structures.
A well equipped wet chemistry analysis facility supports process and material investigation work.
