Especially in developing countries, the drinking water supply presents an enormous health risk. In these countries, 80 percent of all sicknesses stem from poor quality drinking water. This problem is particularly critical in rural regions without electricity. Against this background, Fraunhofer ISE develops solar powered, autonomous water purification systems:
