Portable electronic devices show better performance with every product generation. So, the mobile phone is not only used to talk by phone, but also to take a picture, to make a movie, to navigate or to watch TV.

All these functionality needs additional energy. The hunger for energy of modern electronic products is not satisfied sufficiently with up to date battery technologies. Hence new miniaturized power supply systems are necessary, which are able to prolong the operation times of portable devices significantly.

Co-ordinated by Fraunhofer ISE scienticsts of ten Fraunhofer-Institutes work on solutions for micro energy technology. The main challenges of an optimized power supply are to maximize the energy and the power density for a longer operation of the devices, to further miniaturize the power system for an easy and flexible integration into devices and to minimize the waste heat.
Gathered under the motto "micro energy technology - Power To Go" the market areas Fuel Cell Systems , Photovoltaic Modules , Dye and Organic Solar Cells , and Systems for Off-Grid Power Supply .
